Five mistakes customers make when buying tyres
When a customer arrives with a bad choice for their car, the explanation must be short — otherwise it sounds like a pushy sale.
1. They buy the cheapest
The cheapest tyre costs more per kilometre: it wears faster and brakes longer. The line that works: "the difference is eighty euro a set — that is fifteen euro a year of use."
2. They mix sizes
A 205 and a 195 on the same axle changes handling. If the size is unavailable, a matched pair in the standard size beats mismatched premium.
3. They only look at "new"
A new tyre with an old DOT brakes worse than a year-old one in good condition. Teach them the four digits: week and year.
4. They skip balancing
"Just mount it" without balancing means vibrations and uneven wear within a month.
5. They forget valves and pressure
New tyres on old valves leak slowly. And pressure checked only in spring has already worn the sidewalls all winter.
